Scotland

We arrived yesterday unscathed, even with a layover in London.  The British airways lounge was in full swing at 7am. Folks bellied up to the bar, hitting it hard. That’s a bit early for me.  We met our driver with all our luggage (always a gift) and were delivered to the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian at the foot of Edinburgh Castle.   There is an older gentleman greeter (like Walmart) but dressed in traditional Scottish attire.  He offered to help with our luggage, which soon became a scene from Monty Python.  I think the luggage was taking him, vs the other way around. We were able to score tickets to the Military tattoo.  It is held every August and has sold out for 22 years prior to covid. It was amazing. The “tatoo” was derived when the bagpipes were played for the pubs to close their taps and send the troops back to their quarters.

We had the chance to meet up with Joan Collins, who we met 7 years ago on another trip.  She arranged an afternoon tea and proved to be an amazing tour guide. We had the chance to tour the Gladstone’s land.  It is a trading house established in 1501.  Each floor showed a different time period. I did catch Joan pilfering through the cup boards.  One must watch her like a hawk!

Dinner on the waterfront tonight.  The concierge now knows that the “Otter” is in town.
